Suggestions for Follow-up Actions (KS3-NA11-4)

Possible problems in students' learning (for reference only)

  • Students misunderstand that factorization is a way of addition or subtraction.
  • Students fail to distinguish between the distributive law of multiplication and factorization.
  • Students are unable to understand the concept of using the cross method to perform factorization.
  • Students fail to use the cross method to perform factorization correctly. For example, they wrongly assume that 2x2+x-6= equals to (2x-2)(x+3) .
  • Students fail to use the correct + or - signs when factorizing -ax2+bx+c.
